My advice is if you can get someone to copy the work from the memory board (I guess it's the memory board?) for as cheap as they can to another device. I'll post the results in a few days. the drive seems to spin up but does nothing after that.

Thanks for the advice. Want to read more from Chief Monkey? the ps3 works fine with it showing 149 gigs. I'm not exactly sure why this works but I'm guessing it has something to do with the heads retracting because of the cold temperature.

Claudia Barclay Reply January 5, 2014 The same thing is happening to me with my external 3tb Seagate harddrive. Seagate Hard Drive Spins Up Then Stops There will be moisture in the bag. I wouldn't spend the money on one again.

I am not sure if the heat could have messed it up or not but I have done this many times before.

Can I just put he entire unit in the freezer, or do I have to manually take out the hard drive? xD stupid IBM Deskstar POS drives… i can still hear the clicking of my old 40GB drive taunting me and laughing at all my lost data BACK UP BACK UP BACK Owe you one!! I thought of that after I said but the drive had been room temperature for two weeks by the time I got to it, so I'll probably still try it because, I'll let you know if this solves the problem permanently or whether this was just a lucky break for the time being. My hard drive is currently in two ziplocks in the freezer. bc Reply January 21, 2011 Love this thread… ext hdd will only work for 20 minutes. Someone mentioned doing it that way above, and it makes sense, since most people are saying that as the drive warms up, it'll stop working again.

Thanks. I got the blue screen of death one day and could not boot the laptop up again. The folder appears to have copied over without error and I have the drive plugged into a powered USB hub. It also has a video showing the formation of frost on the metal discs inside the drive.

If I had a free 2 Tb on an internal HDD I would copy the whole thing across to internal and disconnect this external to save my ears.EDIT: The Seagate External fyi Reply to ollie igo SOF_BunnyAug 28, 2012, 9:49 PM Had this same issue.
