Keep me posted! My external hard drive was working fine, but suddenly has stopped showing up on the system. Windows reported that I needed to format the drive. This helped me out alot! Source

Double-check the SATA connection on the back of the drive. Worked perfectly.

But please don't install a second internal drive for backup. In short, unless you have a pressing reason to use MBR, use GPT instead-it's newer, more efficient, and offers more robust protection against corruptions of the boot record. The drive did show up in the BIOS setup but not in Windows Disk Manager. Computer Management (Local) :) Thanks...
